Summer School Success
04-Sept-2006

A highly successful new media start up business completed 6 projects for new clients in their first 2 weeks. Not bad, you might think, but D-Help's employees are all under 16, and have never run a company before. They were all taking part in an innovative summer school project being run by ICDC.

The project's aim is to devise ways to allow school pupils to experience running their own new media company in a real business environment. It is very difficult for pupils interested in this area to get work experience opportunities. This project seeks to find manageable and sustainable ways to allow students to practice and develop their skills in a very real, but simulated work environment. This will raise their levels of confidence and independence, and also allow them to recognise the relevance of what they are learning in school.

"I've learnt how to trust in myself . . . . to have more patients and confidence in myself" Daniel a pupil from St Benedict's High School commented.

Collete Babe - Head of ICT at St. Benedicts High School, later thanked ICDC for "the whole placement experience that the pupils thoroughly enjoyed. Not only did they learn valuable ICT skills from their time there, but also the business knowledge needed to budget and control a new product launch. The pupils and myself can only thank ICDC and hope that this partnership can grow and flourish in the future".
