Alt Valley Vision

Building on the success of Kensington Vision, Alt Valley Vision is a community web project for residents of the Norris Green, Warbreck, Clubmoor, Croxteth, Fazakerley and County wards of Liverpool (download a PDF of the map by clicking the link on the right).

The community-led project was initiated by the Alt Valley Neighbourhood Management Service, and in February 2007, ICDC was successful in winning the £462,400 tender, with the support of key strategic partners such as BT, Greater Merseyside Digital Development Agency, Mersey Broadband and Government Office for the North West. The project runs from March 2007 to August 2008.

The main aim of the project is to develop compelling, entertaining rich media content with the local community in order to increase computer usage and broadband uptake amongst residents with low levels of digital literacy.

Organisations and residents of all ages will receive training and support in creating rich digital content such as video diaries, short films, animation, and websites. This content will feature health, sport, jobs and training, education, entertainment, and community news and events. All content will be uploaded to the internet via a user-friendly community web portal, under the umbrella of the Alt Valley Vision brand. No previous IT skills or experience are necessary as full training will be provided.

The project is also providing wireless connectivity for six centres across the community, encouraging collaborative work through file-sharing and video-conferencing.
